FAQs

  • Neurodiversity affirming practice is an approach that recognises and celebrates the natural variations in the human brain and how people think, learn, and process information. Instead of viewing neurodivergent traits (such as those seen in autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and other neurological differences) as deficits or disorders, this practice values them as part of human diversity. As a neurodiversity affirming occupational therapist, I focus on understanding and supporting each person’s unique strengths and challenges, while promoting environments and strategies that align with their individual needs. The goal is to empower people to embrace their neurodivergent traits, build on their strengths, and participate fully in everyday activities in a way that feels authentic to them. This approach fosters acceptance, self-advocacy, and positive mental health, helping individuals thrive in a world that may not always be designed for their way of thinking.

  • Yes! Unstuck OT primarily uses a parent-coaching model rather than providing direct 1:1 therapy with kids. My approach focuses on empowering parents and caregivers with the tools and strategies they need to support their child’s development, behaviour, and daily functioning at home and in other environments. This model helps ensure that interventions are carried out in natural settings, allowing children to thrive in the context of their everyday routines. Together, we work to create a supportive, tailored plan that addresses each child’s unique needs and strengths. By coaching and collaborating with parents, I aim to build lasting skills that promote independence, well-being, and positive outcomes for both children and their families.
